Helicopter parents controlling child's every movement

Bullying & Helicopter Parents

Bullying & Helicopter Parents are becoming a problem worldwide.

Be assured bullying will not be tolerated at AICOL. We understand the definition of bullying. Our Principals are well equipped to know the difference between bullying and kids being kids.  We have delivered CRICOS registered Young Learner classes at AICOL 50 weeks a year for over 30 years. Add to that the fact that both our Principals are qualified and experienced lawyers.

The increasing phenomenon of “Helicopter Parents” is beginning to impact AICOL.

Parents are requested to carefully note the following conditions relating to enrolment of children:

  • There is a big difference between bullying and kids being kids in playtime.
  • The decisions of the AICOL Principals in relation to all student disciplinary matters are final.
  • Helicopter Parents involving themselves in the day-to-day school operations, will not be tolerated.
  • Please note that parents who are not studying at AICOL are not permitted to stay on the school premises during class times.

Overly controlling parents – “Helicopter Parents” –  can negatively impact the happy environment of our lovely English School.  Parents who make frequent minor complaints or who demand special treatment for their child may be asked to remove the child from the school.

We want all the young students who are studying English at AICOL to enjoy the chance to meet and play with other young students from all over the world. Mobile phones are collected and not returned until halfway through the lunchtime break.  This ensures kids talk to other kids instead of playing on their mobiles. They communicate. They play games. This policy is introduced in the interests of child welfare, school harmony, and
effective school management.

Parents should note that the mega $5million adventure Peninsula Playground – Broadwater Parklands is just a few minutes walk from AICOL. And it is free.
